This week in the house I pushed forward Motion 509 to challenge the constitutionality of the federal carbon tax. The federal government has decided on a whim to grant special treatment to one particular type of carbon-based fuel, home heating oil. This exemption directly affects Albertans, many of whom rely on lower carbon-emitting alternatives, such as natural gas, for heating their homes. Because of this one exemption, Albertans are unfairly burdened with the full unyielding weight of the carbon tax, while others enjoy a discount. We demand fair treatment, and we demand freedom from the carbon tax.
